The United States Cycling Monument, a project of PLAY Boulder, is a landmark installation planned for North Boulder Park to commemorate the historic Red Zinger/Coors Classic Race that lit up the City of Boulder from 1976-1988. It celebrates the evolution of human-powered transport and the sport that pushes its boundaries.
The Red Zinger/Coors Classic Race became the fourth largest race in the world, and an emblem of the healthy lifestyle that continues to draw athletes from around the world to live and train in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. The sculpture, entitled ‘Momentum’, is a spiraling aluminum beam that sails above two large sasndstone supports. It is a grand gesture evoking the energy of cyclists careening over the course to the finish line.
