A program made possible with approved funding through the City of Boulder Health Equity Fund.

PLAYpass is a community initiative that provides collaborative, partner based solutions addressing access to physical activity for culturally and economically diverse youth.  PLAYpass was born out of city, county and community meetings that addressed creative funding priorities following the voter-approved City of Boulder excise tax on sugary sweetened beverages. One finding was common to these assessments: the community driven need for a streamlined scholarship program that packages supplemental aid offerings for low-income youth from a variety of public-health and non-health organizations.

To address this community need, our Foundation came to the table with PLAYpass, a unique solution that expands our scholarship offerings through a partner based, “non-cash” financial aid program.

PLAY works with a wide range of public-health and non-public health stakeholders including the City of Boulder and community sports, health and recreation leagues to reduce duplication of scholarship programs by offering “non-cash” financial aid to supplement federal, state and municipal programs. In addition, PLAYpass provides health equity training for partners and utilizes cultural promoters to reduce information barriers affecting participant access.
